    The South Oldham Middle School Wrestling Team took 18 wrestlers to the Bates Middle School Wrestling Tournament Dec. 27 in Danville.

    The team celebrated 12 top place finishers.

    Name: John Bechard

    School: South Oldham Middle School.

    Hometown: Centerfield.

    Position: Basketball guard. 

    Age: 14.

  • Dunlap powers Colonels

    BUCKNER – Oldham County’s Eric Dunlap showed his range Saturday to lead the Colonels to a 62-56 win over South Oldham.

    Dunlap, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, known more for his ability to break down defenses by slashing to the basket, hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter including two in a row en route to a game-high 33 points.

  • Buzzer beater

    BUCKNER – Audri Beaudrie had no doubt it was a three-pointer but she did have doubts about making the shot.

    Beaudrie, a senior guard for the Oldham County Lady Colonels, hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer Saturday to lift OCHS to a dramatic 58-57 double-overtime win over South Oldham.

    From the close of one of the great high school athletic careers in the state’s history to first-time success by teams and individuals, 2008 brought more than its share of sports success to Oldham County. It was a year that saw teams and individuals claim honors for both past and present exploits in a variety of sports. While there are always too many stories to tell, and not enough time and space, here are The Oldham Era’s top 10 sports stories for the year:

    BEDFORD – Postseason play may be one step closer for the Oldham County Lady Colonels.

    OCHS took a step closer to the regional tourney Friday with a 49-42 district seeding road win over Trimble County.

  • Finding their way

    CRESTWOOD – After two years, the South Oldham Junior Wrestling Club is ready to make a name for itself in the state.

    “We’re always looking to improve and we want to improve on what we did last year,” club coach Randy Wheeler said. “We have another year under our belt with a lot of kids back.”
