    After taking an early two-goal advantage, Oldham County girls soccer held off a late comeback to defeat Central Hardin 2-1 in Buckner Aug. 19. Kennedi Roehrig scored two goals for the Lady Colonels.

    Despite trailing Louisville Male by two goals at halftime, Oldham County coach Mark Robson told his team to play harder and wear their opponent down in the second half. The Lady Colonels responded as Kennedi Roehrig scored two late goals for a 2-2 in the season opener for both teams Aug. 14 in Buckner.

    The 10th annual Guns N Hoses charity flag football game between local first responders was hosted Aug. 10 at the Oldham County Youth Football League (OCYFL) fields in Buckner. The charity event that pits police officers against firefighters was won 34-21 by the Guns (police officers).

    Oldham County football took another step forward in Michael Fox’s second year as head coach with a 10-win season, but now the Colonels change districts and move to Class 6-A. The run-heavy offense from a year ago should be more balanced with the emergence of sophomore quarterback Sam Young while the 3-4 defense has several positions to fill from last fall.

    Oldham County boys soccer seems to have adjusted with first-year head coach Paul Maddox. After tying Ballard 4-4 in the season opener, the Colonels earned their first win of the year with a 6-1 victory over North Hardin in Buckner Aug. 13.

    With a goal of scoring 10 goals in the first half, South Oldham girls soccer did exactly that in a 10-0 victory over Mercy in the season opener Aug. 12 in Crestwood. Six players scored for the Lady Dragons in a match that ended at the end of the first half because of the 10-goal mercy rule.
