  • Lady Dragons pummel North
    GOSHEN – South Oldham made quick work of its crosstown rival Monday night. The Lady Dragons raced out to a 23-2 lead after the first quarter and a 42-6 halftime advantage on their way to a 69-28 win on the Lady Mustangs’ homecourt.
  • All Jan. 25 county basketball games canceled
    More snow hit early Saturday morning and it hit Saturday’s county basketball schedule hard. All county basketball games scheduled for Jan. 25 have been either canceled or postponed. The affected games include: Boys Fern Creek at North Oldham Oldham County at Henry County South Oldham at Christian Academy-Louisville Girls Collins at Oldham County (won't be made up) North Oldham at Dixie Heights (won't be made up)
  • Dragon Invitational canceled
    An expected winter storm has already wiped out a traditional county sporting event. Saturday's South Oldham High School Dragon Invitational wrestling event has been canceled, South athletics director Mitchell Irvin announced Friday morning. "Unfortunately, with the incoming overnight winter storm tonight with a prediction of 1-3 inches and Blizzard conditions from 3 a.m. until 10 a.m. tomorrow we are going to CANCEL the 2014 SOHS Dragon Invitational Tournament scheduled for Saturday, January 25," Irvin wrote in an email.
  • South Oldham at North Oldham girls postponed to Jan. 27
    The South Oldham at North Oldham girls basketball game scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday has been postponed due to inclement winter weather, per North athletics director Alan Yanke. The game will be made up at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27. A JV game will be played beforehand at 6.
  • Tiebreaking Triumph: Oldham County wins sectional duals, advances to state duals
    LOUISVILLE – The numbers added up Saturday for Oldham County to clinch a trip to next month’s large-school state duals. The Colonels won a three-team tiebreaker between OC, Trinity and Fern Creek to take first place in the five-team sectional duals Saturday at Eastern High School. Second-place Trinity also advanced, while Fern Creek was left at home. The tiebreaker came as a result of all three teams going 3-1. All three beat Eastern and South Oldham.
  • All county basketball games for Jan. 21 canceled
    Due to inclement winter weather, all four basketball games involving county teams scheduled for Jan. 21 have been canceled. The games include: Boys: –Collins at Oldham County –Mercer County at South Oldham –North Oldham at Anderson County Girls: –Oldham County at Gallatin County The Era will announce potential makeup dates.
  • Dragons attack basket to hold off Braves
    CRESTWOOD – A South Oldham team known for its 3-point shooting had to find another way to win Monday night when its perimeter shots just weren’t falling. So the Dragons took the ball, ran through the lane and attacked the basket.
  • Griffin's 3 sends South past OC
    CRESTWOOD – High-quality basketball is a family tradition for both Michael Griffin and Isaac Fields. Friday night the son of former Oldham County star Jeff Griffin and the younger brother of former South Oldham standout Carson Fields each got to put their own stamps on basketball in the county. Fields came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers and Griffin hit the game-winning 3 with 20 seconds left as South knocked off OC, 62-58. They helped the Dragons win a game they trailed 50-40 at one point during the fourth quarter.
  • OC girls finally break through vs. South
    CRESTWOOOD – The records don’t lie when it comes to Oldham County and South Oldham’s girls basketball rivalry. “I counted it up today,” OC coach Jace Bryant said, “and the last 12 meetings, they’re leading the series 10-2.” After Friday night, you can make that 10-3 over the last 13. Ashley McMurtrey scored 24 points, including the game’s last seven, Friday as the Lady Colonels finally took down their archrival, 53-47 at South.
  • Two of region's best meet
    Oldham County and South Oldham’s boys go into their meeting at 7:45 p.m. Friday with quality wins under their belts. OC recently finished third in the Surf Division of the Surf ‘N’ Slam Tournament in San Diego, beating teams from Florida and California. Meanwhile South is coming off a title two weekends ago in the John Fendley Classic and a third-place finish in last weekend’s Lindsey Wilson College Holiday Classic. South and OC are ranked first and third in Region 8 by the Courier-Journal.
