  • Trash talking: watch out for ‘trash lassos’ in your path

    So the last time we talked…I wrote. You read. (I like to think of these columns as a kind of conversation. Some of you do continue the conversation when you see me out and about and I am grateful for that). Anyway, the last column you read from me was talking trash.

    I have a knack for accumulating embarrassing moments in my life. This one involves more trash talk.

  • D-Day: The horrible waste of war

    NORMANDY BEACHHEAD, June 16, 1944

    I took a walk along the historic coast of Normandy in the country of France.

    It was a lovely day for strolling along the seashore. Men were sleeping on the sand, some of them sleeping forever. Men were floating in the water, but they didn’t know they were in the water, for they were dead.

  • North baseball wins regional title

    North Oldham baseball won the Eighth Region title for the first time since 2012.

    The Mustangs defeated Shelby County 12-8 in the regional final May 28 at Simon Kenton High School to advance to the state tournament.

  • Lady Colonels win regional title

    Oldham County softball is back in the state tournament.

    The Lady Colonels defeated South Oldham 8-2 in Eighth Region final May 28 at Simon Kenton High School to win the regional title for the second straight year.

  • North baseball tops Collins in regionals

    North Oldham baseball defeated Collins 8-3 in the Eighth Region semi-finals at Simon Kenton My 26. The Mustangs scored seven runs in the sixth inning to advance to the regional final for the second straight year. 

  • Oldham softball reaches regional final

    Oldham County softball defeated Walton-Verona 12-0 in the Eighth Region semi-finals May 26 at Simon Kenton.

    Elana Ornelas went 1 for 4 with three RBIs and a home run for Oldham County. Madison Davis went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Emily Lindell went 4 for 4 with two runs scored. Taylor Jackson went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a home run. 

  • South baseball falls in regionals

    Shelby County baseball defeated South Oldham 9-6 in the Eighth Region semi-finals at Simon Kenton May 26. The Rockets scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie to advance to the regional final.

    JT Benson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Lincoln Price went 2 for 3. Cam Revolt hit a home run and pitched five innings for South Oldham.

  • South softball advances to regional final

    It has been four years in the making for South Oldham softball, and finally, the process has come to fruition. The Lady Dragons advanced to the Eighth Region final for the first time since 2002 with an 11-1 victory over Spencer County in the regional semi-finals May 26 at Simon Kenton.

  • Oldham softball outlasts Carroll County

    Oldham County softball defeated Carroll County 5-2 in the Eighth Region quarterfinals May 25 in Simon Kenton.

  • North baseball advances in regionals

    North Oldham baseball defeated Grant County 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Eighth Region tournament May 25 at Simon Kenton. The Mustangs reached 30 wins for the first time in school history as they advanced to the regional semi-finals.
