    The South Oldham High School Marching Band invites the community to SOHS Dragon Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. as the Marching Dragons perform their 2014 competition show “ICE” in their push toward the Kentucky State Marching Band Championships.

    Brandon T. Bird, son of Leo and Sue Bird of Pewee Valley, received his Bachelor of Arts degree, Cum Laude, in Computer Graphic Design from Sullivan College of Technology and Design on Saturday October 18. Brandon was a 2010 graduate of South Oldham High School.

    The best place to start with long term care is to understand all levels of care and where your loved one falls in that category to make a decision for placement. Every individual is different and so are the needs of that person.

  • Fellowship and friends are more important

    When I was in seminary my parents wrote to me every week. I can’t remember most of what they wrote. Inside the letter would be the latest family news, sports updates and occasionally a dollar or two. Letter writing then and emails now are a wonderful way to communicate with those we love.

  • Region 8 girls soccer: South advances to final

    Stephanie Rowland scored two goals Tuesday and L.J. Wrightington scored the other as the Lady Dragons beat Simon Kenton 3-0 in a Region 8 girls soccer semifinal at Walton-Verona.

    With the win, South (18-4) advances to the region title match. It’ll face Anderson County (13-10-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Walton-Verona for the championship.

    The Lady Dragons will be looking for their first region title since 2009.

    Rowland’s two goals Tuesday give her 107 for her career.

  • OCYFL Week 8 recap

    With the playoffs about to begin for Pee Wee teams, they were battling this weekend for seeding.

    The Packers defeated the Colts 24-6.

    Ryan Holvey took the opening kickoff 60 yards for a special teams touchdown and scored another touchdown in the first quarter, pushing the lead to 12-0.

    Then in the second quarter, he scored his third touchdown of the game on a 27-yard touchdown run.

    The Packers extended their lead to 24-0 behind Amare Davis’ 40-yard run.

  • Region 8 boys soccer: Stage set for North, South championship clash

    SHELBYVILLE – It was destined to happen.

    Less than a week after playing a heart-stopping district title game that South Oldham won 2-1, the No. 8 Dragons (11-6-3) will meet No. 12 North Oldham (9-7-3) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Collins for the Region 8 title for the second straight year.

    North and South clinched their spots in the championship game with semifinal wins Tuesday over Shelby County and Collins, respectively.

  • District 29 volleyball: North, OC win openers

    North Oldham and Oldham County clinched spots in the District 29 championship game and in next week’s Region 8 Tournament with wins in first round district games Monday at OC.

    No. 1 seed North beat Trimble County 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-14) in the first game of a doubleheader.

    No. 2 seed OC swept South 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-14) in the second match.

    The Lady Mustangs and Lady Colonels will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday night in Buckner in the district title match.
