    Two local players were recently named honorable mention all-state in a vote by the state coaches association compiled by The Courier-Journal.SOHS’ Cody Lasseigne, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior, was on the defensive line for his play at nose guard for the Dragons this season. Lasseigne was also the leader of the SOHS offfensive line at center and a three-year starter.North Oldham’s Dylan Grandon was selected as a punter.

  • Crestwood student wins honorable mention for case study competition

    Raymond Wolf of Crestwood, an undergraduate business student at Xavier University, won $1,000 for his school after winning a regional honorable mention award in the 2007 Deloitte Tax Case Study Competition.

    The Xavier team was among 50 teams from 35 colleges and universities around the country that competed in the national contest.

  • Board releases boundaries for school assignments

    The Oldham County Board of Education has released the tentative district boundaries for the new Locust Grove Elementary School scheduled to open in August on the same campus as East Oldham Middle School on Ky. 22 near Ballardsville. Locust Grove is scheduled to open with about 590 students pulled from the southeastern end of the county.

    Despite higher demand for services and tough economy, county officials have tightened their 2008 budgets and are returning a record number of excess fees to Oldham County Fiscal Court for operations in 2007. The Oldham County Clerk’s Office’s return to fiscal court increased by 264 percent in 2007. County Clerk Julie Lentz will return a record $352,809 to fiscal court from 2007.

    Residents not angered by appointmentTo the editor:I don’t know why it is felt that the residents were angered. Four people came to a meeting prepared to do the job they were elected to do. They did not procrastinate about doing their job. Just went on and did it. There was no time to waste as it had already been wasted. Thirty days is all that is allowed by law to replace a council member, 25 had been used with all the waiting. After 30 days the governor would appoint our councilmember.
