    Voter Turnout

    Our County Clerk, Julie Barr, posted on her social media page that voter turnout was a mere 16 percent. Even after considering those voters who are registered as Independents and not able to vote in this primary, this means that four out of five registered voters did not care enough to exercise their rights and obligation as citizens of the greatest country ever developed by rational humans.
    What ever happened to our educational system that taught people that voting was most important?

  • The four virtues I most respect

    Our virtues and our vices define who we are.  They offer us direction for the choices we make.  They quietly demand that we behave responsibly.  Living in concert with our virtues brings peace to our souls.  There are four virtues I most respect and marvel when I see them in others:  
    1. Sincerity is the one virtue that wins respect from everyone.  When people ask me why I go to hear a certain minister preach, I always say, “I do not go to hear him because I believe what he says; I hear him because he believes what he says.”

  • Education briefs-- May 28, 2015

    Oldham Co. Schools Board of Education

    Students’ fees were approved and there were a few changes from last year. The Business Courses fee of $20 will be removed. There will be a $23 fee added for English I-IV. The fee is not applicable for AP courses.

  • Oldham students to represent county at upcoming pageant

    Kate Wetherton, of Crestwood, will represent Kentucky at the America’s Natural Supreme Beauties National Pageant on June 11-14 in Louisville.  Kate is the daughter of Brenden and Diane and a student at Locust Grove Elementary.
    She was chosen as Grand Supreme KY Beauties and will represent Kentucky at the national pageant. Kate is a straight-A Honor Roll student and a member of the Duke University Talent Program.

  • NOHS Band plays Disney World

    Walt Disney World resorts has notified the Era of the following via a press release.
    Members of North Oldham High School Marching Band became stars of their own Disney show on May 18, 2015 when they entertained resort guests at the Magic Kingdom Park. The group traveled from Goshen, Ky. to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Program.

  • Calling all college and high school actors

    The Little Colonel Playhouse will be holding auditions for their annual Youth Show featuring their upcoming production of “The Complete History of America (abridged)” by Adam Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor, directed by Patrick Holifield. The play is slated to run July 23 through 26. Auditions will be held June 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Little Colonel Playhouse, 302 Mt. Mercy Drive in Pewee Valley.

  • Crestwood Civic Club


     The club cordially invites you to the annual Garden Tour and Luncheon on Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Luncheon seating held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a plant sale held at the clubhouse on 7219 Kavanaugh Road in Crestwood.

  • American Legion meeting


    The monthly meeting of the Oldham County Post 39 American Legion will be held on the first Thursday of each month. The June 4 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the American Legion Post #39 building located on 2301 West Highway 146 in the eastern end of Oldham County Fair Grounds in La Grange. Refreshments will be avaialble after the meeting. All veterans are welcome.
