  • Local Merit Scholars named

     The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced approximately 2,200 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. 

    These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2015 competition to approximately 4,100. 

  • Colonial Trade Faire brings life to 18th century

    Oldham County has a rich Native American heritage that not many people may be aware of. Eastern Woodland Indians inhabited Kentucky during the 18th century when many settlers were pouring into what was known as “the dark and bloody ground.”

     Garden Tour

    The Crestwood Civic Club Annual Garden Tour, Luncheon and Plant Sale will be held Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch seatings will be at 11 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. The plant sale will be held at 7215 Kavanaugh Road in Crestwood. The garden tour will feature two private gardens, one in the Prospect area and the other in eastern Jefferson County.

    Tickets are $20 for the tour and lunch, $17 for the tour only.

  • NOHS Band plays Disney World

    Walt Disney World resorts has notified the Era of the following via a press release.
    Members of North Oldham High School Marching Band became stars of their own Disney show on May 18, 2015 when they entertained resort guests at the Magic Kingdom Park. The group traveled from Goshen, Ky. to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Program.

  • Calling all college and high school actors

    The Little Colonel Playhouse will be holding auditions for their annual Youth Show featuring their upcoming production of “The Complete History of America (abridged)” by Adam Long, Reed Martin, and Austin Tichenor, directed by Patrick Holifield. The play is slated to run July 23 through 26. Auditions will be held June 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. at the Little Colonel Playhouse, 302 Mt. Mercy Drive in Pewee Valley.

  • Crestwood Civic Club

     The club cordially invites you to the annual Garden Tour and Luncheon on Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Luncheon seating held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a plant sale held at the clubhouse on 7219 Kavanaugh Road in Crestwood.

  • American Legion meeting

    The monthly meeting of the Oldham County Post 39 American Legion will be held on the first Thursday of each month. The June 4 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the American Legion Post #39 building located on 2301 West Highway 146 in the eastern end of Oldham County Fair Grounds in La Grange. Refreshments will be avaialble after the meeting. All veterans are welcome.

  • KSP Valedictorian

    La Grange resident Whitney Lyell (center) received a valedictorian certificate from Kentucky State Police Lt. Col. Brad Bates (right) and Law Enforcement Training Instructor Jason Long (left) during graduation ceremonies for the sixth class of the KSP Telecommunications Academy in Frankfort on May 22. A telecommunicator at KSP 5 in Campbellsburg, Lyell completed the six-week course with an overall average of 99 percent. She is the daughter of Darrel and Cami Lyell of Sulphur.
