Bridgmohan wins big at Churchill Downs

Jockey Shaun Bridgmohan of Goshen rode Nobel Bird to victory in the Grade I Stephen Foster Handicap Saturday at Churchill Downs. Nobel Bird ($11.40) completed 1 1/8 miles over a fast track in 1:47.94 and secured a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (GI) at Keeneland Race Course on Oct. 31, beating out 7-5 favorite Lea. Bridgmohan secured two more wins on Saturday’s 11-race card at Churchill Downs. He won aboard Awesome Sky ($3.40) and Top Clearance ($3). 

 

Crumbo to North

After leading the boys and girls track and field team at Oldham County for four years, coach Brian Crumbo has joined North Oldham as the girls cross country coach. Athletic director Alan Yanke confirmed Crumbo will also be an assistant to the track and field team with an emphasis on distance runners. 

 

Baseball All-Stars

Four county baseball players were honored as a part of the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association East/West All-Star Games last week at Pleasure Ridge Park High School (PRP). Oldham County junior pitcher Griffin McLarty played during the Junior All-Star Game on Thursday. North Oldham third basemen Cameron Masterman and South Oldham catcher Tanner Johnson represented Region 8 on the Sophomore All-Star team. McLarty was named to the third team All-State team while North’s Andrew Pennybaker earned an honorable mention.

 

 

South Oldham hosts summer league games

The Dragons’ boys basketball team will host multiple summer league basketball games on Monday, June 22. Four teams from across the region will gather in Crestwood for a series of games as scheduled:

South Oldham vs. Carroll County, 4 p.m.

Iroquois vs. Spencer County, 5 p.m.

South Oldham vs. Iroquois, 6 p.m.

Carroll County vs. Spencer County, 7 p.m.

South Oldham vs. Spencer County, 8 p.m.

Carroll County vs. Iroquois, 9 p.m.
