Young women between the ages of 16-24 experience high rates of sexual assaults, stalking, and relationship violence. One in five women will be sexually assaulted while in college, and one in four women will be a victim of domestic violence in her lifetime.  MenWork, Inc. will lead a discussion with parents and teens that will challenge the way you think about your own personal safety and share steps to keep yourself safe in the face-to-face world.  Janna Johnston will discuss how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of physical violence by learning what risk looks like and recognizing survival signals. Basic elements of self-defense will also be addressed and demonstrated.

MensWork: eliminating violence against women, Inc. was formed in 2008 by a small collective of men who wanted to create more ways for more men to be more actively and proactively involved in ending men’s violence against women.

Janna Johnston holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in the Japanese/Okinawan style of Chito/Ryu Karate. She was a competitor, instructor and tournament judge for 13 years.
