Search and rescue teams and volunteers in Oldham County are searching for a 15-year-old missing girl.

Mellie Simpson was last seen on Nov. 21 at her home in Goshen.

The North Oldham Fire Department said in a Facebook post that they believe there is a risk of self-harm.

North Oldham Fire Department Chief Hewitt Brown said they currently have plenty of volunteers at the scene.

Brown said the fire department was notified at approximately 3 p.m. yesterday and began searching for Simpson then.

Oldham County EMS and Oldham County Police were also on the scene yesterday. Jefferson County search teams, including air scent dogs and helicopters also assisted yesterday.

Today, search and rescue teams and neighbors have been searching the wooded area near the family’s home in Goshen.

“Our general search area right now is the Buckeye Lane area, the farms adjacent here, but more specifically the Harrods Creek basin,” Brown explained.

Brown estimates that approximately 30 volunteers are searching for

Simpson in addition to 15 North Oldham Firefighters.

Brown told the Era at 11 a.m. that the dog search team and a drone operator were headed to the scene in Goshen.

Officials believe Simpson is wearing camel colored Merrell hiking boots, a bright red and light tan Osprey backpack, black pants and a green winter coat. She is 5'6 and 120 pounds.

“Right now, we are asking for any information that might be helpful and prayers," the North Oldham Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
