Goshen girl wins $1,000 award

By Tracy Harris

It was Linnea Wieck’s lucky day. On Tuesday, she was presented with a $1,000 check.

Then again, 4-year-olds don’t think about money very often, which is OK since the money is in a college savings account she can use in 14 years.

Wieck is one of eight Kentucky students to win the Destination College Savings Sweepstakes this year. More than 100,000 students who participated in summer reading programs across the state were eligible for the prize.

Wieck attends Harmony Elementary Preschool and was one of 2,000 children who attended Oldham County Public Libarary’s summer reading program. This is the second year an Oldham County student has won the drawing.

The prize is sponsored by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust

Another perk: as the winner’s local library, OCPL received a check for $500.
