The Project Guild of La Grange is now accepting nominations for grand marshal of the 2019 Oldham County Day Parade.

The deadline is Thursday Nov. 15.

Each year, members of the Project Guild of La Grange select a grand marshal by way of nominations from the community. Criteria for this honor is that the person must be a current (or past) resident of Oldham County and he or she must have devoted his or her time and talents for the good and betterment of our community.

The ideal candidate may be a well-known individual or someone who quietly gives of his or her time.

Oldham County Day is always the third Saturday in July. The 2019 event takes place July 20.

Past grand marshals include the late Alton Ross, the late Wally Nay, Owen “Jeep” Whitehouse, Bill and Holly Fischer, Kevin and Karen Eldridge, the late Dr. Steven Applegate, Brad Clifford of North Oldham Little League, Jean Schumm of Operation: PARENT, the late Buddy Head, Kris Landers, Dot Smith, Dr. Tom Clark, Kyra Elzy and most recently, Nancy Theiss.

To nominate a parade grand marshal, send a letter describing why the nominee is deserving of the honor. Nominations may be sent to Project Guild Grand Marshal, P.O. Box 31, La Grange, Ky., 40031; or emailed to OldhamCountyDay@gmail.com. Deadline is Thursday, Nov. 15.

The recipient will be celebrated during the Oldham County Day Grand Marshal Luncheon and featured in the Oldham County Day Parade.

Project Guild’s Oldham County Day celebration began in 1971 and has spawned several accompanying events, including the City of La Grange Kentucky’s street concert, the Oldham County Family YMCA 5K Festival Race, children’s carnival at La Grange Christian Church, events at the Oldham County History Center, and the La Grange Rotary Club’s pancake breakfast.
