A naked man led police on a foot chase through La Grange yesterday before jumping into the lake at Wilborn Park.

La Grange Police said that officers responded to the 400 block of North First Street at approximately 12:50 p.m. yesterday on a report of a white male running in the road and jumping onto cars.

Victims reported that the male was running in the middle of the street and they had to stop to avoid hitting him with their vehicles.

Police say the man extensively damaged two cars.

“The male jumped up on the hood of one car, jumped up onto the roof of the same car, then jumped off and ran to the second vehicle, striking the hood several times with his fists before running from the scene,” La Grange Police said in a press release.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of East Washington Street on a report on a white male running naked through the streets.

Once arriving on the scene, officers attempted to stop the male, but he fled on foot, leading police on a foot chase through fenced backyards in a neighborhood, Eddie Mundo Park and to Wilborn Park where he then jumped in the lake and swam to the middle.

Police say they tried to persuade the man to get out of the lake, but he refused.

La Grange Fire and Rescue Department was then called to the scene to capture the man in a boat.

The man, who is not named in the press release, was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Police suspect he was suffering from an unknown mental health condition and using an intoxicant that is also unknown at this time.

One officer suffered a leg injury during the chase. He has since been treated and released from the hospital.

La Grange Police said in a press release that criminal charges will be pressed at a later date.

No further information is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
