Support Voegele

Since there are no Democrats who have filed to run for office, the Primary Election on May 20 will determine our county officials for the next four years.

My choice for Oldham County Judge-Executive is David Voegele. There is no doubt in my mind he has done a good job and been an excellent public servant.

There have been many accomplishments.

As he promised, he has led Fiscal Court in reducing county debt by $8.7 million since his tenure. That’s an amazing 62 percent, from $14.1 million in January 2011 to $5.4 million at the end of the current fiscal year.

He did what he said he would do and followed through on a promise to get rid of the unsightly buildings along Highway 146 in Buckner and improve the traffic flow around Oldham County High School.

David Voegele also took the leadership role to step in to prevent a continuation of embarrassing employee conduct issues and financial mismanagement at Oldham County EMS. And, perhaps most important of all, there have been no tax increases from county government over the past three and a half years.

From my perspective, our county is in great shape. As a former Oldham County Clerk, I have seen first-hand the importance of exercising our right to vote. I encourage everyone to stand with David Voegele and vote in the Primary Election May 20.

Experience Matters

Yes, 2014 is an election year for many county and state offices. The landscape will be covered with signs from political hopefuls and newpapers will be filled with “Vote For Me” type of political advertisements.

Then comes the question “What candidate should I vote for” in each of these political contests. In some races both canidates will have a good mixture of work experience and job qualifications for the office they seek. However in some races this is not what exists. In certian campaigns one candidate will have years of experience and good qualification while their opposing rival, however will be what I call a professional mudslinger or fault finder. This candidate will have little if any work experience or qualifications and will use negative campaign tactics as a “smoke screen” to mask their own deficiencies for the office they seek.

So in choosing a candidate to cast your ballot for remember this: Work experience and job qualifications are everything anything less is just talk and with some candidates its negative talk.
