The Kentucky Flash, La Grange’s semi-professional basketball team, begins its spring season next week.

Coach Charles Hickman relocated the team from Dayton last year and the Flash competed in the National Professional Basketball Association (NPBA) 10-game fall season with homes games at La Grange Community Center.

Hickman, an Oldham County resident, said his team had a bounce back fall season, finishing 9-2. The Flash went 1-12 last spring.

Montrell Little averaged 29 points last fall.

“He played exceptional for us,” Hickman said. “To have him back and add some new guys is going to be great because now we have a little more size.”

The roster has added more length and size as now seven players are 6-foot-5 or taller.

“I have a bigger team, but they can push the guys that can handle the ball,” Hickman said.

Melvyn Little, who played in several games last year before an injury, is a member of the Flash’s backcourt.

The Flash added point guard, Kalen Kimberland, along with Stuart Jackson and Darnell Berry, two players Hickman said are lengthy and athletic. Tevin Andrews, another new addition, can play multiple positions.

“They seem very hungry,” Hickman said. “They’re a group of guys that are going to work hard and put on a show.”

Hickman looks for players with a high basketball IQ and has found players with experience playing professionally overseas.

While some players attempt to garner attention from other professional leagues, Hickman said some players have college eligibility left, so the Flash can be an opportunity to get film to college coaches after the completion of high school basketball.

The admission is $5 and $3 for students. Hickman encourages any youth organizations wanting to perform during halftime of games to contact him at email charles_hickman@icloud.com.
