Oldham County Judge-Executive David Voegele has issued an excutive order prohibiting all open burning in Oldham County until further notice.

The burn ban took effect at noon June 28.

The ban includes burning for agricultural and recreational purposes, but does not prohibit fireworks.

Residents who plan to light fireworks are urged to use extreme caution.

Any group planning a large-scale fireworks display during the Independence Day holiday needs to notify Oldham County Dispatch at 222-0111.

Voegele said fire chiefs throughout Oldham County requested the ban.

Open burning is restricted from May to September in Oldham County due to the area's pollution levels exceeding standards set by the Clean Air Act.

Fires for cooking, recreation or agricultural reasons are normally permitted during that time, however, the judge-executive's order prohibits open burning of any kind until further notice.
