The HSOC learned in 2017 that they would be losing their current building in La Grange on Hwy. 53.

The nonprofit, no-kill shelter, has been searching for a new space since then. Now, thanks to an anonymous donor, that dream has become a reality.

The new facility will be located off Commerce Parkway at 2601 Interior Way in La Grange on 7.5 acres.

A local family donated the land in late 2014, according to a previous Era article and now, a portion of the construction costs has been donated.

Now, the HSOC is asking for the public's help.

That donor has created a matching campaign called “give me shelter.” Any money donated to the HSOC’s building fund will be matched up to $250,000.

“We can realize our vision with the help of the community,” HSOC Board President Michele Culp said. “With every dollar being matched, all donations big and small count even more.”

The new facility will feature an expanded low-cost spay and neuter clinic, two cat rooms with viewing areas, dog housing and outside play yards.

“Our goal is to build a state-of-the-art spay/neuter clinic and shelter for Oldham County,” Culp previously told the Era.

The building will also have a grooming area, adoption interview rooms, walking trails, gardens and separate office space for volunteers.

The HSOC has a team of 80 volunteers, who logged 13,000 hours in 2018, according to a news release.

In addition to spaying and neutering, the HSOC prepares rescued dogs for adoption in partnership with the Kentucky State Reformatory.

The HSOC will also be hosting its annual Fashion and FURiends fashion show this Saturday at CityPlace in La Grange. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Humane Society of Oldham County.
