SoccerHoward is member of soccer academyWhen: This spring.Where: Shattuck-St. Mary’s School, Faribault, Minn.What: Brycen Howard, of Crestwood is a sophomore at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School, in Faribault, Minn. He is in his first year in residency as a member of their full-time soccer academy program, and is a starting midfielder for the Under-16 boys’ team. Howard was selected to represent the United States Youth Soccer Association as a member of his regional Olympic development team that participated in various competitions held in Barcelona, Spain, beginning February through March of this year. Howard is the son of Jarod and Michael Howard.

BaseballSOLL opens senior league registrationWhen: April 30 deadline.Where: South Oldham Little League, Crestwood.What: The South Oldham Little League is taking registration for its senior league for players ages 15-16.The registration deadline is April 30. League play will start in mid-May at the conclusion of the high school season.The registration fee is $120. To register go to the league’s Web site at sobaseball.org.

Scholarship NewsDiGiuro Fund sets racetrack fundraiserWhen: June 7.Where: Churchill Downs.What: The Trent DiGiuro Foundation will host its 11th annual Day at the Races at Churchill on June 7, the day of the Belmont Stakes.The event is on Millionaire’s Row. Tickets will be available in early May. All proceeds go to fund scholarships sponsored by the foundation for student-athletes at the three local high schools and the University of Kentucky.

When: Registration starts Tuesday.Where: Wendell Moore Park, Briar Hill Park and Immaculate Conception Church.What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department will offer beginning tennis lessons for kids ages 6-8 and 9-12. Lessons meet at the courts at Wendell Moore Park, Briar Hill Park and Immaculate Conception. Morning classes meet twice a week for four weeks for $48. Evening classes meet once a week for six weeks for $36. There is a maximum of eight students per class, minimum of four. Tournament champs receive $200 off entry into the spring league, sponsor’s trophy and t-shirts.For information, call 225-0656.Pitch, hit and run contest setWhen: April 20.Where: Walsh Park, La Grange.What: The Oldham County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a free baseball pitch, hit and run competition at 1:30 p.m. April 20 at the North Oldham Little League complex at Walsh Park. This competition is for boys and girls ages 7-14. Winners can advance through four levels of competition: local, sectional, team championship and national finals. The final level concludes at the 2008 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Francisco.For information, call 225-0656.Thoroughbreds offering soccer campsWhen: June 16-19, July 28 to Aug. 1.Where: YMCA indoor sports arena, Buckner.What: The Thoroughbreds Soccer Club will offer a four-day camp June 16-19 and will include a full day and half-day option. The full day camp is $120 and the half-day is $90. Registration deadline is June 1.They will also offer a five-day camp at the end of July 28 to Aug. 1 that will be a half-day camp only for $75. Registration deadline is July 1.Both of these camps are open to all players of all ability types from ages 6-14.
