Cross Country: Lady Colonels win Shelby County Invitational, boys place fourth

The Oldham County girls cross country team won the Shelby County Invitational Saturday by dominating the top 10.

Six Lady Colonels placed in the top 10, filling out third through seventh and the 10th place position. Sammy Griffin led the team with a third place finish in 20:51.26 followed by Rachel Gibson, Sarah Abukwaik, Evelyn Constant and Riley Glenn in seventh. Briana Vance placed 10th with a time of 22:20.40 and Ally Reinert finished 12th.

The Lady Colonels’ 25 points dominated the event with second place Atherton scoring 95 and host Shelby County coming in third with 123. 

The boys team placed fourth in the invitational led by Michael Drury’s eighth place finish and Shaun Montgomery’s 14th place spot.

The boys team scored 108 points and was edged by Atherton in third (101) while Holy Cross and host Shelby County ran away from the pack, Shelby winning with 45 points, Holy Cross at 58. 

The junior varsity squads for both teams also performed well. 

The girls JV had five runners finish in the top 11 with Emma Wayland (third), Tori Hafner (fifth), Maddy Campbell (seventh), Katy Chapmen (tenth) and Jazmin Chambers in 11th.

The boys JV squad was led by race winner Jacob Brizendine clocking in at 18:23.81. Isaiah Cook and Hunter fields finished third and fourth, respectively and Trevor Brown rounded out the top 10.
