Oldham County wrestling won the annual Super Duals in Buckner Saturday, Dec. 1 against an opponent that might have been a little too familiar. After the Colonels’ A and B team both won all four of their dual matches, they met in the final, where the A team, comprised of the varsity line up won 78-0.

Though two Colonel teams haven’t met in the finals before, Oldham County coach Aaron Riordan knew it was a possibility going into the meet.

“It’s a really good sign for us that we are doing things the right way and developing our whole team from top to bottom,” Riordan said. “Our guys work really hard.”

Oldham County A defeated Simon Kenton 51-18 while Oldham County B defeated Apollo 48-30 in the semi-finals.

The Colonels begin their usual road stretch against competition north of the Ohio River as schools in Indiana host four of Oldham County’s next five meets. Oldham County expects the competition to get tougher in the coming weeks.

“We have had a lot of first period pins,” Riordan said. “We don’t have that much mat time in right now. The next road stretch the first period pins will be few and far between. That’s what we need. Getting guys to end the match at a higher pace than we started is what we aim for as the season goes on. Only way to get to that point is to get in those tough grinding places.”
