Colonels flex at annual weight lifting competition

Oldham County High School sent eight participants to the annual Push-Pull Power Lifting Meet at North Bullitt High School on Mar. 14. The Colonels finished third overall in the combined class.

Junior Jason Henry won the overall competition while competing in the 181-pound weight division. Henry bench pressed 285 pounds and set a state record in the dead lift by lifting 585 pounds for a 870 pound total. The original state record in the dead lift was 545 pounds. Brothers Daniel and Michael Kimble represented the Colonels well with Daniel placing first in the junior varsity division in the 198-pound weight class lifting 665 pounds (bench - 260, dead lift - 405). 

Junior Michael Kimble lifted 855 pounds in the 198-pound varsity division, beating the state record in the dead lift by five pounds with a 555-pound lift. Sophomore Hunter Elkins placed third in the 242-pound weight class by bench pressing 215 pounds and 440 pounds in the dead lift.
