OC dominates Shelby County

SHELBYVILLE-- Oldham County quarterback Brett Strnad threw four touchdown passes – three to Cody Oldham – to lead the visiting Colonels to a 48-14 victory over host Shelby County on its homecoming Friday night at Robert Doyle Stadium.

Oldham County built a 41-7 halftime lead on its way to ending a four-game losing streak.

"We finally put a full game together,” Colonels Coach Matt Brown said.

Oldham County amassed 397 yards of offense, 213 rushing and 184 passing. Strnad was 9-for-14 for 171 with TD tosses of 34, 36, 32 and 17. Oldham finished with three catches, all touchdown, for 83 yards while

Kerry Smith added a pair of TDs – a 90-yard kickoff return and a 36-yard reception from Strnad.
The Colonels scored on all their possessions in the first half.

Jacob Taylor capped a six-play, 75-yard drive with a 17-yard touchdown run on Oldham County’s first possession. Strnad’s 34-yard TD to Oldham capped the Colonels’ second drive and a 52-yard TD run by Garrett Wilder capped their third.

Shelby County’s Chase Manica returned Oldham County’s ensuing kickoff, after Wilder’s run, 80 yards to put the Rockets on the scoreboard.

Smith responded, though, by returning the subsequent kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give the momentum back to the Colonels.

“That was huge for us to answer in one play,” Brown said.

Shelby County was plagued by two lost fumbles and eight penalties for 82 yards. Additionally the Rockets were 1 of 8 on third down conversions.

“Fumbles and false starts, and the quick scores, it was a combination of everything,” Shelby County Coach Todd Shipley said.

Wilder led the Colonels in rushing with 53 yards on only four carries, while Smith had 32 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards.
