A 14-year-old male is dead after he suffered a gunshot wound, according to the La Grange Police Department.

A 911 call was received at 4:50 p.m. Sunday about a gunshot wound victim in the 1002 block of Christopher Lane in the Oldham Oaks Apartment complex in La Grange.

“It’s under investigation with La Grange Police with assistance with the Oldham County Police Department with the events that led up to this death,” La Grange Police Department Chief Greg Collett told the Era.

"It's a tragedy," a woman at the scene, who did not give the Era her name, said. "Accidents do happen."

The Oldham County Coroner’s office was also on the scene.

"At this time, this investigation is being titled as a death investigation and in the initial stages of case development," Collett said in a press release May 6.

No further information is being released at this time, including the identity of the victim.

If you have any information about this incident, contact the La Grange Police Department at 222-0111 or their anonymous tip line at 873-8945.

Correction: The male victim is 14-years-old, not 15-years-old. The La Grange Police initially told the Era the male was 15-years-old.
