  • Volleyball: Lady Colonels beat...

BUCKNER – The breast cancer awareness cause Oldham County played for on Monday had a special meaning for junior Leah Hollander.

“It’s really close to my heart because my aunt died of breast cancer,” Hollander said. “…I think it’s great we could come out and play in honor and memory of them and get the win.”

Hollander had 14 kills and 3 aces Monday for the Lady Colonels, who beat Presentation 3-1 (25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16) to run their record to 27-2 on the season.

  • Volleyball: North beats OC again...

LOUISVILLE – North Oldham and Oldham County could play four matches this season and only one of them – a potential meeting in the Region 8 championship game – would truly matter.

But through two match-ups this season, North has had the advantage.

The Lady Mustangs beat OC 2-0 (25-15, 25-21) on Saturday at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center in the championship match of the Jefferson County Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

  • Football: Dragons snap losing...

DRY RIDGE – South Oldham wasn’t perfect Friday but it did enough to break a two-game losing streak.

Senior fullback Kevin Kuriger rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown and the Dragons took a 21-9 win at Grant County.

South (4-2, 1-1 Class 5-A, District 5) had a punt blocked for a safety, missed a field goal and fumbled four times in the second half.

But the Dragon defense stood tall, giving up just five first downs outside of a third-quarter Braves touchdown drive.

  • Boys soccer: Colonels cruise in...

BUCKNER – Oldham County went into its match Oct. 2 against Western Hills with at least four games left on its schedule but one that really mattered – a District 29 semifinal against North Oldham.

“Everything we do at this point of the season is geared to us getting ready for postseason,” OC coach Brian Durbin said. “We have the games coming up but the main goal in those games is trying to get us playing the way we want to play when we face North again.”
