    One year after Oldham County dominated girls soccer in the county, its crosstown rivals are off to strong starts.

    North Oldham was 4-0-1 going into a game at Grant County Wednesday night that was played after the Era’s press deadline.

    Meanwhile South Oldham was 4-1 going into a game at Ballard Wednesday that was also played after the Era’s deadline.

    North has scored 25 goals in its first five matches while only allowing five. South has also allowed five while scoring 13.

    Oldham County continued an undefeated start to the 2014 season Friday and Saturday with a sweep of the Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Lafayette.

    Included in the Lady Colonel run were wins over No. 10 McCracken County and No. 3 Ryle.

    OC (11-0), ranked No. 9 in last week’s Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association poll, got the weekend started Friday with 2-0 victories over tournament host Lafayette and Woodford County.

    SHELBYVILLE – Behind a dominating performance from the offensive line, the South Oldham Dragons won 32-17 Friday at Collins.

    The Dragons’ line sprang fullback Kevin Kuriger for 243 yards on 28 carries while allowing South (1-0) to control the tempo and pick up a win in its season opener against the defending 4A state champions.

    GOSHEN – One program is building for the future, laying the foundation for better days.

    The other program is playing for the here and now, out to win a district title and possibly compete for more.

    It was obvious which program was which Friday night at Mustang Stadium.

    North Oldham’s talented and veteran team had its way with a rebuilding Oldham County squad, beating the Colonels 42-7 in a dominating performance.
