    Walking off the floor on Dec. 18, the South Oldham Lady Dragons couldn’t help but smile. Though the game they just played wasn’t pretty by any means — a narrow 54-51 win over North Bullitt — what it signified was. In addition to providing their first win of the season, coach Christy Higdon hopes it also provides a boost moving forward.

  • North Oldham girls participate...

    During a month filled with plenty of basketball, the North Oldham girls’ basketball team found time to take a step away from the game recently, donating their time and energy to bring the Christmas spirit to Crum’s Lane Elementary in Louisville.
    Though the team has participated in similar community service events in years past, including adopting a family last season, coach Dan Pfaff said they were looking for a more personal approach this year.

  • Oldham County rolls past Central...

    Entering Friday night’s semifinal matchup in the Best in Hoops, Central High School hadn’t surrendered more than 60 points in a game.
    It took the Oldham County Colonels all of three quarters to reach that mark, coming out of the gates firing to jump up 41-33 at the break.
    The Colonel’s pace didn’t slow in the second half either, as the tandem of guards Jacob Kopp and Sam Gruber kept the Yellowjackets at bay with timely plays down the stretch.
    None would be bigger than a clutch 3-point play to break Central’s back in the fourth quarter.

    BOYS’ BASKETBALL
    ELIZABETHTOWN 50,
    NORTH OLDHAM 45
    Despite a 15-point outburst from guard Trevor Burton, North Oldham couldn’t find a way past visiting Elizabethtown, dropping a 50-45 contest to the Panthers. David Levitch, the team’s leading scorer on the season, never managed to find a rhythm, contributing just 12 points on the night — well below his average.
    No other North Oldham player cracked double-digits.
    The Mustangs return to the floor at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21 as they take on Sheldon Clark in the Lexington Christian Classic.

    When Ashley McMurtrey hit the final free-throw to win the game with just 0.3 seconds left in last year’s District semifinals, Trimble County vowed for revenge. On Friday night, their opportunity arose. The result was a 65-57 win for the Colonels, marking another key victory for Oldham County.

  • Oldham County escapes Trimble 81...

    The Oldham County Boys’ Basketball team defeated Trimble County on Dec. 14 81-71.

    The Colonels looked to rebound after their loss on Dec. 11 loss to second ranked Bullitt East, 50-43. Oldham County took the lead early through fast-breaks, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. With the help of a Connor Hicks jumper and Austin Wills back-to-back 3-pointers, they would stretch it to 15-8. Oldham County would end the first quarter with a 22-14 lead.

  • South Oldham routs Western Hills...

    It didn't take long for South Oldham to assert themselves during Thursday night's game against Western Hills, blitzing the hapless Wolverines 91-47 in a track meet that was over almost as soon as it began.
    After trading baskets to start the game, the Dragons opened up a 24-6 run to close the quarter behind 10 points from senior forward Shae Goodlett. In the second quarter, DeVonte Jones took over the scoring load, chipping in 9 of his own to help South's lead balloon to 56-18 at the half.

  • South Oldham girls fall short...

    South Oldham's game Dec. 11 was a long one for the Lady Dragons as they fell to a tough Jeffersonville team 59-51. Trailing the whole game, the Indiana team started to pull away in the fourth quarter and ultimately went back to their home state with a win.
