  • Volleyball: Lady Colonels take...

    Oldham County continued an undefeated start to the 2014 season Friday and Saturday with a sweep of the Bluegrass Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Lafayette.

    Included in the Lady Colonel run were wins over No. 10 McCracken County and No. 3 Ryle.

    OC (11-0), ranked No. 9 in last week’s Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association poll, got the weekend started Friday with 2-0 victories over tournament host Lafayette and Woodford County.

    SHELBYVILLE – Behind a dominating performance from the offensive line, the South Oldham Dragons won 32-17 Friday at Collins.

    The Dragons’ line sprang fullback Kevin Kuriger for 243 yards on 28 carries while allowing South (1-0) to control the tempo and pick up a win in its season opener against the defending 4A state champions.

    It was obvious which program was which Friday night at Mustang Stadium.

    North Oldham’s talented and veteran team had its way with a rebuilding Oldham County squad, beating the Colonels 42-7 in a dominating performance.

    BUCKNER – Oldham County volleyball has continued its perfect start to the 2014 season.

    Ballard was the latest to fall victim to the Lady Colonel attack, as OC beat the Bruins 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) in straight sets at hime Thursday night.

    The Lady Colonels (5-0) have dropped just two sets all season and are ranked No. 9 by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association. The first week of play has been a good start for an OC team out to defend its first Region 8 title since 2009.
