    GOSHEN — North Oldham turned the tables in dramatic fashion to close out regular season district play.

    Just a day after suffering a run-rule loss, the Mustangs returned the favor to Oldham County, turning an explosive third inning into a 14-1 victory over the Colonels Tuesday evening in Goshen.

    North Oldham (10-11, 2-3 District 29) scored 11 runs in the third inning and totaled 13 hits to hand Oldham County its first district loss of the year.

    The Colonels’ bats went off for 10 hits as Oldham County took the series against South Oldham in a 6-2 win on a night that honored former longtime OC coach Larry McMillin.

    Senior Brennan Byrd earned the win for the Colonels (20-3, 4-0 District 29), which now puts them in first place in the district with a two-game series against North Oldham looming next week.

    Oldham County girls basketball legend Kyra Elzy is already in one Kentucky Hall of Fame. Now another one is calling her name.

    Elzy is one of seven names released by the Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame for its 2016 inductees.

    The 1996 Oldham County High School graduate joins Darel Carrier, Philip Haywood, Scott Davenport, Shaun Alexander, Joel Utley and Lakeside Swim Club as the inductees to be honored at a banquet on June 2.

    CRESTWOOD —Griffin McLarty’s outstanding week turned into a record year on Monday.

    The Oldham County senior pitcher accomplished his preseason goals and moved into the Colonels’ record books for second-most all-time strikeouts.

    McLarty tossed a complete game in Oldham County’s 1-0 win Monday at South Oldham with eight strikeouts while surrendering three hits.

    Martin has resigned from his position as head football coach at North Oldham to care for his father, who has had health issues and will undergo significant surgeries in the coming weeks.

    Martin, 46, was the head coach at North Oldham the last 10 years.

    CRESTWOOD — South Oldham senior Dustin Cecil added on to an already stellar season when his team needed him the most.

    Cecil threw a complete-game shutout as South Oldham defeated North Oldham 8-0 to sweep the two game District 29 series.

    The Dragons plated five runs in the second inning and three in the fourth to win their fourth straight against the Mustangs.

    Cecil gave up four hits and allowed one walk with one strikeout in seven innings of work while throwing just 69 total pitches.

    Now the Dragons are sitting right where they want to be with a first round bye for the district tournament in their sights with one more district game approaching.

    South Oldham put Oldham County away in the first half and forced a running clock after halftime on its way to a dominant 21-1 victory over the Colonels Wednesday night in Crestwood.
