    North Oldham edged second-place Christian Academy-Louisville and third-place South Oldham in the combined standings of a four-team meet Friday night at the University of Louisville.

    North finished second in both the boys and girls events but was first overall with 333 points. Next came CAL (303), South (266) and Oldham County (112).

    South (167) won the boys meet. Next were North (160), CAL (113) and OC (59).

    CAL (190) took first in the girls competition, followed by North (173), South (99) and OC (53).

    The high school basketball season is a month old, which makes it a good time to review how things have gone so far for the six county schools.

    December saw the South Oldham debut of girls coach Jessica Conner and head coaching debut of North Oldham’s Rob Burton.

    The month saw Oldham County’s boys come up just short in their bid to win the Best in Hoops Tournament and North’s boys edge South in the championship of the Coach Bob Classic.

    North Oldham wingback Arien Beasley was selected as one of the state’s best running backs last week after a standout 2014 season.

    Beasley was named a third-team all-state running back by the Courier-Journal.

    Beasley received the honor after rushing for 1,649 yards and 31 touchdowns this season on just 157 attempts.

    The senior also caught 31 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns.

    His 212 points this season were a school record.

    Beasley is being recruited right now across several levels of college football.
