  • Boys golf: Maier finishes sixth...

    6:15 p.m.

    North Oldham senior Josh Maier fired a two-round 145 to finish tied for sixth overall at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club.

    Maier was in the lead after shooting a 68 (-4) in the first round. He fired a 77 (+5) in the second.

    Maier double boegeyed the 4th hole and bogeyed the 6th, 13th and 16th during his final round.

    John Augenstein of Owensboro Catholic was the tournament champion, firing back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3) to finish at -6 overall.

  • Football: Colonels shut out by...

    Oldham County managed just 42 yards of total offense on Friday night and fell 27-0 in its district opener at Fern Creek.

    The Colonels (1-6, 0-1 Class 6-A, District 5) have now lost two straight games after beating North Bullitt 55-54 on Sept. 19 for their first win of the season.

    The Tigers (4-2, 1-0) held OC to -24 rushing yards on the night.

    Colonel quarterback James Harding was 4-of-15 passing for 66 yards with three interceptions. He had eight rushing attempts for -57 yards with a lost fumble.

    Seven North Oldham players scored touchdowns Friday as the Mustangs recorded a 53-0 win against Waggener in Goshen.

    North (4-2, 1-1 Class 4-A, District 3) forced a first-half running clock and led by a score of 40-0 at halftime.

    Mustang winback Arien Beasley ran five times for 54 yards with two touchdowns. Kevin Graham, Chris Webb, Jackson Wine, Harrison Stuart and Chris Burton also ran for North touchdowns against the Wildcats (1-5, 1-1).

    CRESTWOOD – South Oldham went into its game Friday against Cooper in search of a complete performance.

    The Dragons put together solid four-quarter efforts to begin the season with wins against Collins, Anderson County and Oldham County, but couldn’t sustain success in their last three games – losses to North Oldham and Conner and a win against Grant County.

    As senior linebacker Connor John described it, South got back on top of a roller coaster Friday against Cooper.

    CRESTWOOD – Defense wins championships, and on Thursday night No. 2 Paul Laurence Dunbar and No. 9 South Oldham showed why they’re both favored to win their respective region championships and contend for a state crown.

    The Dragons and Bulldogs played to a 0-0 draw at Dragon Stadium in each team’s regular season finale.

    Both sides produced quality chances but neither could break completely through the other’s defense and goalkeeper.

    BUCKNER – The Oldham County championships Wednesday went to prove just how even cross-country competition is in the county this season.

    Host Oldham County won the girls championship after the Lady Colonels got the advantage over North Oldham and South Oldham thanks to a tiebreaker.

    South Oldham won the boys title over North Oldham, placing four runners in the top five.

    South swept the individual titles, with sophomore Hallie Searcy winning the girls 5K and junior Cole Dowdy winning the boys championship.
