  • Football: Colonels host unbeaten...

Oldham County will hope to make the second intra-county football rivalry game of the year go differently than the first.

North Oldham stifled the Colonels last month in Goshen on its way to a 42-7 win.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday OC (0-3) will welcome Class 5A No. 6 South Oldham (2-0) to Bell Field with sights set on a better outcome.

The Dragons are coming off an emotional home win over Class 5A No. 7 Anderson County, while the Colonels fell 49-7 last week at Class 5A No. 4 Franklin County.

  • Boys golf: North out to defend...

The county’s most prized boys golf trophy will be up for grabs next week.

The Oldham Cup competition will begin at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon at Oldham County Country Club.

Play will continue over the next two days at Harmony Landing and Nevel Meade.

Coach Larry Dunn’s North Oldham team beat Oldham County and South Oldham for the title last fall.

North out-paced both OC and South in the Oldham County Classic in August, finishing second only to St. Xavier.

  • OCYFL Week 2 recap

The Oldham County Youth Football League (OCYFL) was back in action and finally able to complete a full week’s worth of games after uncharacteristic heat forced the league to cancel games during opening weekend.

Saturday’s games went on as scheduled and Sunday wrapped up the Pee-Wee division’s games to complete the first full week.

The Vikings and Jaguars would start out the day for the division.

  • Football: Mustangs, minus...

The momentum North Oldham gained by beating OC 42-7 in its opener came to a halt last week when quarterback Taylor Heckenberg separated his throwing shoulder in a 24-21 loss at Class 2A No. 4 Christian Academy-Louisville.

With Heckenberg out for at least a couple of weeks, sophomore Bryce Webb and/or junior T.C. Falkner will handle quarterback duties at 7:30 Friday night at North Bullitt (1-1).

“(The difference is) experience more than anything,” Mustangs coach Billy Martin said. “They can run our offense.”

  • Boys soccer: Colonels take first...

BUCKNER – Oldham County’s Shane Davis hadn’t scored a varsity goal going into the Colonels’ home match with North Oldham Tuesday.

The OC freshman picked couldn’t have picked a better time for his first, scoring the go-ahead goal in a 3-2 Colonel win.

No. 20 OC (5-1-1) is now 1-0 in District 29 play and will clinch the No. 1 district seed if it beats South Oldham Sept. 16 in Crestwood.

“There’s no better feeling right now,” senior OC goalkeeper Adam Curry said.
