    Following a loss to Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) in its season opener, South Oldham football bounced back to defeat Doss 33-14 last Friday. Keaton Martin rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown and JaMartez Beaudoin blocked and returned a punt for a touchdown as South Oldham scored the game’s final 19 points.

    With an 11-point second half deficit, Oldham County’s defense delivered three turnovers to lift the Colonels to a 35-24 win over North Oldham last Friday in Buckner. Jacob Ratliff returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the final seven minutes as the Colonels defeated their intra-county rival for the second consecutive year.

    The opportunities were there, but Oldham County boys soccer couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit to Highlands in a 2-1 loss Thursday night. The Colonels controlled possession for most of the night and outshot the visitors, but Oldham County couldn’t find the back of the net.

     A late goal by Brylee Pottie with 76 seconds left provided an equalizer for Oldham County girls soccer in a 2-2 tie against Ryle Wednesday night. The goal culminated a frantic push by the Lady Colonel offense after Ryle took a one-goal lead on a score by Morgan Snider with 15:52 in the second half.

    The Goshen father-son team of Jeff and Zach Whiteman, a 2017 North Oldham High School graduate, climbed Mount Rainier earlier this month, a challenge that tested their mental fortitude and physical endurance.

     Although the rivalry between Oldham County and North Oldham doesn’t have any postseason implications, the football game means something to players, students and fans.

    There are several intriguing matchups and storylines heading into the game that kick offs Friday night in Buckner at 7:30 p.m.

Henry County’s Nick Riggs rushed for a 10-yard touchdown on the first play in overtime and the Colonels fumbled the first snap on their ensuing possession to end the game.

    With a short-handed roster because of injuries and family responsibilities, Oldham County girls soccer fell to DuPont Manual 3-2 Wednesday night. Junior Tristan Whalen scored two goals for the Lady Colonels in their first home game of the season.

    South Oldham wants to play its best volleyball at the end of the season this year. In 2016, the Lady Dragons began the season 11-2 before losing 17 of their final 20 matches. Coach Amy Wells said the struggles left a bad taste in the team’s mouth because everyone left thinking they didn’t play well despite the hot start.

    Finishing games was Oldham County volleyball’s motivational emphasis this offseason. Coach Vince McDonough believes the Lady Colonels could have won 28 or 29 matches in 2016, instead of 21, if they would have closed out teams.
