  • Vipers hosting tryouts

    The Vipers Baseball Club is hosting 2015 tryouts over the coming weeks at Bellarmine University.

    7U-14U tryouts will take place Aug. 16-17, with 15U-18U tryouts happening Sept. 13-14.

    There’s a $40 tryout fee per player.

  • Walling works out at top camp

    Oldham County native and Class of 2018 quarterback Ben Walling competed at a prestigious football camp last week.

    Walling, who plays for Llano High School in Llano, Texas, competed at Football University’s TOP GUN at the Dublin Jerome High School in Dublin, Ohio from July 21-23.

    Walling is the son of Wade Walling and grandson of Dave Walling, both of whom played football at Oldham County. He moved to Texas as a child.

  • McLarty named to Team Kentucky

    Oldham County baseball junior Griffin McLarty has been named to Team Kentucky for the Prep Baseball Report Future Games.

    The Futures Games feature top Class of 2016 prospects from across the Midwest, according to a PBR release.

    The Futures Games will take place Thursday through Saturday at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.

    Hundreds of scouts from across the country will be in attendance, per the release.

    McLarty, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-hander, will be on the field as a pitcher.

    Oldham County baseball junior Griffin McLarty has been named to Team Kentucky for the Prep Baseball Report Future Games.

    The KHSAA is recommending softball players at certain positions take further steps to protect themselves from injury.

    Earlier this month the KHSAA Board of Control passed a proposal recommending the use of protective headgear for softball pitchers, first basemen and third basemen.

    The proposal did not apply to baseball.

    The Board made its recommendation after studying national injury data and after consulting the state’s sports medicine advisory committee, per a KHSAA press release.
