  • Athlete of the Week

    Name: Sami Henderson.

    School: Oldham County Middle School.

    Sport: Basketball/softball.

    Age: 13.

    Position: Point guard/shortstop.

    Hometown: La Grange.

    Accomplishments: Henderson, who will enter the eighth-grader at OCMS this fall, has been one of the outstanding campers at Oldham County High School Lady Colonels' coach Larry Just's basketball camp this week.

    As a starting point guard for the OCMS seventh-grade team, Henderson helped the Lady Colonels to the conference finals. She enjoys running the show as a point guard.

  • Rice and ice is the key

    CRESTWOOD – Injuries and sports go hand-in-hand.

    The treatment of injuries both minor and major are the key to getting back into the game for athletes of all ages and levels.

    “The very first thing you do after an injury, if you do the right thing makes all the difference in the world,” South Oldham High School athletic trainer Kelly Dyke said. “If you use the wrong treatment, it can take a lot of work to correct and that means a lot longer recovery time.”

    Name: Shelby Sadolsky.

    School: Kenwood Station Elementary School.

    Sport: Soccer/basketball.

    Age: 11.

    Position: Forward.

    Hometown: Crestwood

    Accomplishments: The 11-year-old Sadolsky has been one of the standout campers this week at South Oldham High School Lady Dragons’ coach Frank Wright’s summer camp.

    Wright said she may be the best natural athlete in the morning group and is a hard worker from the moment she walks into the gym.

    Oldham Aces vs. Floyds Knobs

    Score: 8-6 Floyds Knobs.

    When: June 8. 

    Where: South Oldham High School. 

    Key players: The Aces’ Alex Davidson, Andy Wood and Jordan Ellis. Floyd Knobs’ Neil Fertig.

    Game highlights: Floyds Knobs first baseman Neil Fertig hit a three-run homer in the third and a two-run homer in the sixth inning to lift his team to the win over the Aces in the season opener for both teams.

    ROOKIE LEAGUE

    METS 12, DODGERS 4 - Matthew Duvall and Landon Morgan homered to lead the Mets.

    Wyatt Finnell doubled twice for the Mets while Nicholas Winder and Ben Gibson also doubled.

    Luke O’Hara led the Dodgers with a double.

  • Athlete of the Week

    Name: Steven Votaw.

    School: Liberty Elementary School.

    Sport: Baseball.

    Age: 7.

    Position: Shortstop.

    Hometown: La Grange.

    Team: The Rookie Division Orioles in the North Oldham Little League.

    Accomplishments: Votaw helped the Orioles to their first win of the season Saturday with a 15-6 victory over the Nationals. He went three for four at the plate with two triples and had several strong defensive plays.

    Holland sets camp dates at OCHS

    When: Monday through June 11. 

    Where: Oldham County High School. 

    What: New Oldham County High School boys’ basketball coach Jason Holland will host his first youth basketball camp from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through June 11.

    Holland was hired last week to replace retiring coach Gary Forrest.

    The cost is $60 per camper or $45 if one or more family members attend. Registration is from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday.

    St. Al’s football registration set

    When: Immediately. 

    Where: St. Aloysius School, Pewee Valley. 

    What: St. Aloysius School is accepting registration for its fall football programs.

    Registration for the school teams for grades third- through eighth-grade is open until July 31.

    A preseason clinic will run July 7 to 9. Flag football is also available for grades one through four.

  • Sterrett is district player of...

    GOSHEN – North Oldham High School senior Jason Sterrett has been selected as the 29th District’s Player of the Year.

    The award comes from the district’s coaches based on regular season performance.

    ROOKIE LEAGUE

    RIPTIDE 14, RACERS 3 - Payton Martin and Payton Debeer tripled as the Riptide scored 10 runs in their last two at-bats to win.

    The winners got doubles from Amaya Wutrich and Megan Kaelin.

    Kelsey Rogers led the Racers with a double.

    RIPTIDE 9, SUNBIRDS 8 - The Riptide came alive with all nine runs in the last three innings.

    Breann Edgar, Payton Martin, Jocelyn Johnson and Jordan Simpson all had doubles during the rally.
