  • Boys golf: Maier finishes sixth...

    Josh Maier saved some of his best golf for his final high school tournament last weekend.

    The North Oldham senior fired a 68 in the first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Tournament on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, sitting alone in first place after the round.

    Maier was unable to replicate that magic Saturday afternoon, shooting a second-round 77 to finish with a 145 (+1).

    That put him in a tie with Lyon County freshman Cullan Brown for sixth place at Bowling Green Country Club.

  • Olympic coach conducts seminar...

    Jean Lopez, three-time Olympic taekwondo coach, conducted a seminar at Kentucky Taekwondo and Fitness Academy on Saturday in Crestwood.

    Lopez was coach of the U.S. Olympic teams in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

    He worked with the students on adapting fighting styles and techniques to succeed under new rules. Lopez said he also hoped to motivate and inspire them.

    “I just see the enjoyment of these guys, that they’re having a good time,” Lopez said. “They’re getting a different perspective and they’re learning.”

  • Volleyball: Grimm gets 300th win

    South Oldham volleyball coach Amy Grimm won her 300th career match with the Lady Dragons on Friday, beating Bishop Brossart 2-0.

    Grimm, a five-year varsity volleyball letter winner and graduate of South (’96), has been playing and coaching volleyball since she was five.  

    She started her playing career at St. Aloysius Elementary School prior to playing her middle and high school ball at South Oldham.

  • Soccer team wins title
  • OCYFL Week 7 recap

    In another week of Oldham County Youth Football League (OCYFL) games, coaches continued to fine-tune the offense and defense as the playoffs near.

    The Bucs led off the action for the Junior Division, beating the Jets 12-6. 

    Cooper Smith’s pass to Preston Boone was good for a 12-yard touchdown for the Bucs. 

    Boone followed that up in the second quarter with a 29-yard TD run to give the Bucs a 12-0 halftime lead. 

    The Jets scored on a fourth-quarter 90-yard TD pass from Sam Campbell to Eli Meyers to close the scoring.

  • North athletes raise money for...

    The North Oldham girls and boys soccer teams sold pink t-shirts raising $1,005 for the American Cancer Society.

    They wore their “pink out” uniforms last week to celebrate those families who have fought through or are fighting breast cancer.

    “Last year one of the boys on the soccer team lost his mother due to cancer and so this is a cause near and dear to this team,” athletic director Alan Yanke said in an official release.

    Rain showers that hit Oldham County on Monday and Tuesday mornings have forced the District 29 soccer tournament to be rescheduled.

    The tournament, which was scheduled to start on Monday night at Oldham County, will now begin Wednesday night.

    South Oldham and Oldham County's girls soccer teams will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at OC in the first semifinal. North Oldham and OC's boys teams will play their semifinal match after that.
