    TENNIS   Quigley reaches SEC semifinals When: Sunday.  Where: Lexington.  What: Former South Oldham High School tennis star Eric Quigley reached the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Indoor tourney. Quigley, a sophomore from Pewee Valley, fell to Javier Garrapiz of Georgia 6-3, 2-6, 2-6. Quigley defeated Sekou Bangoura of Florida 6-3, 7-5 in the quarter-finals.

     BUCKNER – When it counted, North Oldham got more of the good than the bad from point guard Kameron Shams as they held off Oldham County 58-51 Friday.

    Name: Hope Sample. School: Oldham County Middle School. Sport: Basketball. Age: 14. Position: Forward/center. Hometown: La Grange. Accomplishments: A 5-foot-7 forward/center for the Lady Colonels, Sample was a starter this year and has since moved up to play on the Oldham County High School freshman team.

    GOSHEN – A new and improved attitude has led to a new and improved version of the North Oldham girls’ basketball team so far this season.

    The Lady Mustangs are off to an 8-4 record, the best in the program’s history.

    Key players: Oldham County’s Emily Lape and Brooke Leanhart.

    Game highlights: The Lady Colonels had one of their best inside/outside games of the year as forward Emily Lape scored a season-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds while guard Brooke Leanhart hit three three-pointers to finish with 18 points.

  • Swim teams making improvement

    With better numbers and more experience, the three local high school swim teams are all seeing an improvement in fortunes as they hit the midway point in their seasons.

    While the squads are still in what is considered the toughest region in the state with the more established Louisville programs, they are closing the gap again this season thanks to swimmers like Oldham County’s Claire Grogan and Annie Golemboski, Ben Zaepful and Anne Schear of North Oldham and Josh Malone and Harley Jackson at South Oldham.

    CRESTWOOD –eeThe South Oldham Dragons dictated the tempo through their shooting and an improved full court press to hand Oldham County a 66-46 loss Saturday.

    The Dragons got out to an 11-0 lead in the first period as the Colonels struggled offensively. OCHS scored their first basket with 2:30 left in the first period on a shot in the lane from Dylan Sims.

    The South Oldham Middle School Lady Dragons seventh-grade basketball team finished the season by winning the Mid-Bluegrass Conference tournament.ee They ended theeeseason with a 15-1 record. Erin Wilson, Erika Laws, Lizzie Scott, Tina Scott, Mhari Shaw, Abbey VanZant, Sydney Jones, Logan Stuart, Jodi Ansert, Emma Leskody, Coach Shannon Carwile and Coach John Kunk.

  • Late push gives Lady Dragons win

    CRESTWOOD –eeSouth Oldham guards Jordann McGuffin and Jasmine Whitfield found their defensive legs in the second half to key the Lady Dragons to a 60-52 win over Oldham County Saturday.

    “We finally started getting some steals and that got us a lot of layups,” McGuffin said. “It was a back and forth game. I just think we became the team that pulled through in the end.”
