  • Out of the spotlight

It’s definitely going to be different around Oldham County High School in October. For the first time in 21 years when basketball practice starts, Gary Forrest won’t be in the gym. When Forrest, who spent a year as an assistant under Bob Hoggard before taking the head coazching job, announced his retirement from coaching and teaching, it brought an end to an era of excellence in the OCHS program. Winning 415 games and five regional titles along with reaching the regional finals four more times will do that.

  • Strike Driller

CRESTWOOD – If Mike Conn’s bowling ball isn’t doing what he wants it to do then he likely has no one to blame but himself. Conn, 18, and a resident of Crestwood, is one of the nation’s top-ranked junior bowlers and a member of the Bellarmine University bowling team. In addition to being one of the top bowlers around, Conn is unique in that he drills his own balls in a garage at his house. “It really helps because I can really personalize it so the ball comes off my hand better,” Conn said.
