    Name: Hope Sample.

    School: Oldham County Middle School.

    Sport: Basketball.

    Age: 14.

    Position: Forward/center.

    Hometown: La Grange.

    Accomplishments: A 5-foot-7 forward/center for the Lady Colonels, Sample was a starter this year and has since moved up to play on the Oldham County High School freshman team. A well-rounded athlete, OCMS coach Danny Schulz said she runs the floor exceptionally well and is a solid defensive player inside and out.

  • Mustang meet draws state&...

    GOSHEN –eeMother Nature gave the North Oldham High School Mustang Invitational a big boost last week.

    With last week’s snow canceling many events, the NOHS wrestling meet will feature 31 teams and more than 300 wrestlers this at 10 a.m. this Saturday.

    “This might turn out to be the largest meet in the state,” NOHS coach Robert Fulk said. “With the snow last week a lot of teams lost a chance to wrestle and they are all looking for a meet before regionals next Saturday.”

  • Making a run at state

    BUCKNER – Claire Grogan has made her decision.

    Now she’s ready to close her high school swimming career with a bang.

    Grogan, an Oldham County High School senior, will lead the local swimmers into Friday’s regional swim meet at the University of Louisville pool.

    Grogan, also a cross country standout, recently decided to accept a cross country/track scholarship from Samford University in Alabama.

  • Athlete of the Week

    Name: Rebekah Phillips.

    School: Liberty Elementary School.

    Sport: Tae Kwon Do.

    Age: 7.

    Hometown: La Grange.

    Accomplishments: Phillips took up Tae Kwon Do in July and has quickly moved up the ladder at the Kentucky 

    Tae Kwon Do and Fitness Academy in Crestwood.

    She is already a member of the academy’s black belt club for students who are actively pursuing obtaining the belt.

  • Warren, Brown take second in...

     CRESTWOOD – South Oldham’s Spencer Warren and Adam Brown both took second place in their respective divisions to lead their team to an eighth place finish in the Dragon Wrestling Invitational Saturday.

    SOHS scored 113.5 points to lead the local teams with the eighth place finish. Oldham County scored 71 points to finish 12th while North Oldham was 17th with 47 points.

    Warren, a 171-pound senior, fell to top-ranked Brad Hitchings of Trinity 11-4 in the finals. Hitchings is ranked No. 1 while Warren is ranked No. 4.

  • NOHS swimmers third at Indian...

     RICHMOND – The North Oldham High School swim team won third in the Madison Central Indian Invitational Saturday.

    The meet featured swimmers from 16 schools from across the state. NOHS scored 229 points, losing only to the Madison Central and Lexington Catholic.

    The girls were led by freshman Anne Scherer and seventh-grader Emma Brazeau. Scherer placed third in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle, breaking her own school record in the 100.

  • Lape sets new Lady Colonels&...

    BUCKNER – Emily Lape thought she had seen just about everything in her four-year basketball career at Oldham County High School.

    But Lape surprised even herself Jan. 20 when she scored 45 points to lead the Lady Colonels to an 85-49 win over Spencer County.

    The 45 points sets a new school record in the storied Lady Colonels’ tradition breaking the old mark of 41 points set by Bethany Martin in 1992.

  • One more challenge

    CRESTWOOD – For Dan Thomson it was another step toward his ultimate goal.

    Thomson, a senior at North Oldham High School, won the 140-pound title at the South Oldham Dragon Invitational Saturday with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Lane Jones of Cooper.

    “It was a really tough match,” Thomson said. “It was the first time I had ever wrestled him and he is good. I have been ranked No. 2 all year long and he has been third, so it was a pretty big win for me.”
