    NEW CASTLE –  In a game that never lacked for high drama, Shelby County’s defense dominated the closing minutes of the third quarter as the Rockets came from behind to beat South Oldham 76-70 Tuesday in the Eighth Region finals.

    Shelby County forced four straight turnovers and converted on all four as they went from a 50-43 deficit to lead 51-50 at the close the third quarter.

  • SOHS, Gallatin County game comes...

    South Oldham's Casey Jackson hit two of three free throws with four-tenths of a second left to give the Dragons a 63-61 win over Gallatin County Monday in the Eighth Region semi finals.

    Jackson was fouled on a three-point attempt after missing an off-balance three-point attempt from the left wing,

    The winning free throws ended a long night for the Dragons who fell behind 17-2 to open the game. SOHS regained the lead at the opening of the second half only to see Gallatin come back to take a six-point lead,

    Game highlights: Sophomore guard Emily Housley’s hot hand carried the day for the Lady Dragons as they rolled to an easy first round win in the district tourney.

     

    Housely hit all seven of her shots from the field to lead the Lady Dragons with 14 points.

     

  • South sweeps

    GOSHEN – Brice Jewett never doubted himself or his teammates.

     

    The South Oldham senior guard led a comeback Friday that saw the Dragons overcome a poor first half to beat North Oldham 73-56 and win the 29th District title.

     

    “We kind of let our emotions get the best of us early in the game,” Jewett said. “We just had to relax and play. I think our senior class has been together since the sixth grade and we just had the experience to get the job done.”

     

  • Shelby upsets South

    INDEPENDENCE – On a night when luck and good fortune abandoned them, the South Oldham Lady Dragons couldn’t quite make enough breaks of their own as they were upset 43-42 in overtime Monday by Shelby County in the opening round of the Eighth Region tourney.

     

    “If the game had ended one second earlier we would have been a lot better off,” SOHS coach Frank Wright said. “It was a game where we had some opportunities and just didn’t capitalize on them.”

    Oldham hockey will defend state title

     

    When: Saturday and Sunday.

     

    Where: Iceland Sports Complex, Louisville.

     

    What: The Oldham County hockey team will defend its state title this weekend at the Iceland Hockey Sports Complex.

     

    The team comprised of players from all high school and middle schools in the county, has a 16-0-2 record this year.

     

  • North Oldham Mustangs beat...

    North Oldham's one-two scoring punch of guard Alex Foley and center Devon Rowan carried the day for the Mustangs as they beat Oldham County 64-52 Wednesday in the opening round of the 29th District tourney.

    The pair led a late third quarter charge as Foley hit a three-pointer from the corner and Rowan scored inside twice allowing the Mustangs to increase a five-point lead to 46-36 at the close of the quarter.

  • South Oldham boys roll over...

    Powered by their outside shooting and Trimble County turnovers, the South Oldham Dragons rolled over Trimble County 82-36 Tuesday in the opening game of the 29th District tourney at North Oldham.

    The Dragons closed the first quarter with a 15-1 scoring run to lead 21-7. With guard Brice Jewett hitting three three-pointers in the second quarter, SOHS led 47-19 at the half.

    Casey Jackson led SOHS with 16 points while Jewett finished with 15.

    SOHS, 24-5, will face the winner of the Oldham County/North Oldham game at 7:45 p.m. Friday for the district title.

  • Lady Colonels top Lady Mustangs...

    Oldham County's balanced scoring was too much for North Oldham as the Lady Colonels beat the Lady Mustangs 68-50 in the opening round of the 29th District tourney Wednesday at North Oldham.

    OCHS' Emily Lape led all scorers with 26 points including nine in the second quarter when the Lady Colonels began to pull away.

    OCHS also got 13 points from Brooke Leanhart, 11 from Ericka Hardin and nine from Emily Melton on three three-pointers.
