  • Vitalis is Mr. Soccer

    CRESTWOOD – After a stellar senior soccer season, it just got a little better for South Oldham’s Will Vitalis.

    Vitalis has been voted the state’s Mr. Soccer by high school soccer coaches from around the state.

    “I started the year as the player of the year, then I had my best season and South Oldham had its best season,” Vitalis said. “This is just the perfect way to cap it off.”

    LOUISVILLE – As far as Will Vitalis is concerned a little drama never hurt anyone.

    Vitalis, a senior striker for the South Oldham High School soccer team scored with 2:27 left in the game to give the Dragons a 2-1 upset of No. 1 ranked Trinity Monday in the opening round of the state tournament.

    “I just wait until the last second sometimes I guess,” Vitalis said. “Just to make it dramatic.”

  • Colonels edge Bearcats 10-7 for...

    BUCKNER – There were plenty of big plays to go around, but none bigger than Jake Weigel’s.

    Weigel nailed a 23-yard field goal with 3:06 left in the game Friday to help the Oldham County Colonels beat Anderson County 10-7 and win the district title.

    “I didn’t think about it,” Weigel said. I just concentrated on hitting it hard and straight. “I knew I had it when it came off my foot.”

  • OCHS beats North to win region

    SHELBYVILLE – It was a reversal of fortune for the Oldham County High School volleyball team as they beat North Oldham 25-17, 28-26 Oct. 22 to win the first regional title in school history.

    After falling to NOHS in the regular season and district finals a week earlier, the Lady Colonels turned the tables in a scenario similar to to last season when OCHS won the regular season game and district.

  • Liberty’s Thomas wins

    In the fourth-grade race at the Capitol View Classic Oct. 10 in Frankfort,

    Liberty Elementary’s Jeff Thomas won first place with a time of 6:02, a full 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

    Thomas led Liberty to a second-place finish, their best race of the year.

    Snyder Griffin also posted a top 20 finish for the Bulldogs in 18th place. 

  • NOMS boys win Dragon Invitational

    The North Oldham Middle School boys’ cross country team won the South Oldham Dragon Invitational Saturday. North had five runners in the top 11. North is undefeated this season with a record of 9-0. Top scorers for North were Trenton Fryman, Nolan Ruhs, David Terkula, Michael Cawood and Matthew Powers.

    Accomplishments: Greenwood is one of the outstanding campers at coach Steve Simpson’s fall break basketball camp this week at South Oldham High School.

    He is expected to be a key player for the South Oldham Middle School Dragons this year as a guard.

    “He’s a really nice player and a very hard worker,” Simpson said.

  • Cross Country: Dragon...

    The North Oldham boys and South Oldham girls continued their local dominance winning their respective team titles.

    The Mustangs posted 33 points to win led by Trenton Fryman in fourth place. NOMS had five runners finish in the top 20.

    The Lady Dragons won going away with 20 team points led by individual champion Erin Wilson. Rachel Marcus was second and Kaitlyn Klaber was third for SOMS.
