  • South sweeps Oldham

    CRESTWOOD –eeThe South Oldham Dragons dictated the tempo through their shooting and an improved full court press to hand Oldham County a 66-46 loss Saturday.

    The Dragons got out to an 11-0 lead in the first period as the Colonels struggled offensively. OCHS scored their first basket with 2:30 left in the first period on a shot in the lane from Dylan Sims.

  • SOMS Lady Dragons win conference...

    The South Oldham Middle School Lady Dragons seventh-grade basketball team finished the season by winning the Mid-Bluegrass Conference tournament.ee They ended theeeseason with a 15-1 record. Erin Wilson, Erika Laws, Lizzie Scott, Tina Scott, Mhari Shaw, Abbey VanZant, Sydney Jones, Logan Stuart, Jodi Ansert, Emma Leskody, Coach Shannon Carwile and Coach John Kunk.

  • Late push gives Lady Dragons win

    CRESTWOOD –eeSouth Oldham guards Jordann McGuffin and Jasmine Whitfield found their defensive legs in the second half to key the Lady Dragons to a 60-52 win over Oldham County Saturday.

    “We finally started getting some steals and that got us a lot of layups,” McGuffin said. “It was a back and forth game. I just think we became the team that pulled through in the end.”

    Name: Holly Schumm.

    School: South Oldham Middle School.

    Sport: Basketball.

    Age: 14.

    Position: Point guard.

    Hometown: Crestwood.

    Accomplishments: Schumm, a heady point guard, recently helped the South Oldham Middle School Lady Dragons to the Mid-Bluegrass Conference tournament championship as SOMS swept the eighth-grade and the seventh-grade tourneys.

    Schumm was a key player from her guard spot and enjoys the position.

    North Oldham hosting signups

    When: This month and February. 

    Where: Walsh Park, La Grange. 

    What: The North Oldham Little League will host signups for the 2010 season on several Saturdays and Sundays in January and February at the league’s complex in Walsh Park.

    Signups are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Jan. 30 and Feb. 6.

    Signups are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.

  • Homeschool fencing club growing

    The Oldham County Homeschool Fencing Club meets weekly for fencing classes led by Coach Orion Bazzell of the Louisville Fencing Center.ee The club has 19 new fencers this month.eeWilliam Alger, Zach Wingert, Nicholas Gunnell, Noah Anderson, Rhetta Wingert, Jonah Dorris, Evan Tate, Philip Tate, Jeremiah Dorris, Blake Simpson and Ana Hudson.

  • Local runners win AAU title

    These Oldham County runners competed in the 2009 AAU national cross country championships at Disney World Dec. 6 as part of the Derby City Athletic Club and helped the club to the overall AAU national team championship. Trenton Fryman, Avery Fryman, Renee Grendi, Nicole Grendi, Luke Weishaar, Caitlin Beyea, Braxton Hall and Shelby Adams.

  • Duo keeps ’em guessing

     GOSHEN – Just five games into the season, opponents of the North Oldham Mustangs are starting to face a big dilemma.

    Do they stop senior guard Alex Foley outside or concentrate on shutting down sophomore center Devon Rowan inside? 

    The problem is likely to grow in favor of NOHS as the season wears on.

    Wallace selected for talent combine

    When: Jan. 7. 

    Where: South Oldham High School. 

    What: South Oldham High School quarterback Christian Wallace has been invited to the 2010 U.S. Army National Combine for football players.

    The combine is for underclassmen will be a part of the All-American Bowl week which showcases the best senior players in the country.

    Wallace, a junior, completed 85 of 198 passes for 733 yards and four touchdowns this season for SOHS and was an all-district punter.
