  • Oldham hits North with second...

    GOSHEN – Oldham County didn't have all its pieces available Thursday night, but it still got the job done.

    Guards Hayden Hawes and Jordan Gates scored 18 and 17 points each and the Colonels advanced in the district tournament with a 66-48 over North Oldham on the Mustangs’ home floor.

    The win clinches OC (21-6) a spot in next week’s Region 8 tournament and a spot opposite South Oldham in Friday night’s District 29 championship game. North (11-17) ends its year on a five-game losing streak after beating South Feb. 10.

    GOSHEN – Sports provide the full range of emotions, but too often it’s the negative emotions we see on display.

    The rage from a parent yelling at an official, the disappointment of an unexpected loss, the sadness of a season coming to an end – the negatives are easy to spot.

    But Friday at North Oldham we got to see an emotion you don’t often see on a court or field, but one that’s as noticeable as any.

    We saw pure joy.

    The senior guard finished with 33 points, 26 of which came in the first half, and was a pest on the defensive end, playing a part in the Raiders turning the ball over 18 times before the half.

    Young's big performance lifted South Oldham to a 51-19 halftime lead and eventually to an 88-60 win over Trimble Wednesday night at North Oldham in the first round of the District 29 tournament.
