  • Oldham County XC sweeps weekend...

    The Oldham County High School cross country teams turned in a good performance over the weekend in the Woodford County Invitational, capturing first place in all four races they contested, including boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity.
    They also had individuals who performed well, including several who broke personal records.
    Casey Vandenbark started things off nicely in the junior varsity girls’ race with a win win in 20:47, while Drew Maddy took second in his third junior varsity race with a time of 18:26.

  • FCA hosts Fields of Faith event...

    The Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted its annual Fields of Faith event on Oct. 17.
    The event attracts nearly 100 students and their parents every year from the different schools in the county.
    Many students and parents return annually to enrich their faith, while others are attracted by the prospect of starting a path to Christianity.
    The evening’s main speaker, former University of Louisville wide receiver Scott Long, had plenty to tell Oldham County’s attendees.

  • Olympian visits local swim team

    The Oldham Era, Staff report
    For nearly 90 minutes on Oct. 2, the Shelby Sharks USA Swim Team relished a visit from Olympian and Louisville native Clark Burckle at the Family Activity Center in Shelbyville.  
    Burckle answered questions about swimming-related challenges, swam for 30 minutes in the pool demonstrating some stroke technique and signed autographs.

  • Lady Colonels fall 2-0 to...

    Walking off the field after Monday night’s state tournament game, the Oldham County Lady Colonels couldn’t help but smile.
    Though their season had just ended in heartbreak with a close 2-0 loss to 7th Region champion, Assumption, they had plenty of reasons to celebrate.
    Chief among those was the historic season they had just completed, advancing to the final field of 16 for one of the few times in school history.

  • Local duo breaks pair of school...

    On the soccer field, Brittany Moshos and Stephanie Rowland couldn’t be any more different.
    Moshos, a senior goalkeeper for the  Oldham County Lady Colonels, takes pride in her ability to keep the ball out of the net, while Rowland, a sophomore forward for the South Oldham Lady Dragons, does her very best to put it there.
    Despite their differences, the duo does have one very important thing in common — they’re very good at what they do.

  • South Oldham falls 3-0 to St. X...

    For the better part of the 2012 season, South Oldham boys' soccer team just seemed to find themselves in the right places at the right times. As a result, a team that started the season hobbled by injuries, reeled off an impressive run en route to both a 29th district regular season and tournament championship and a unmatched march through 8th Region tournament play. But like all good things, it came to an end Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to No. 1 St. Xavier in the state tournament opener.

  • North Oldham repeats as 8th...

    For nearly a year, the North Oldham Mustangs shouldered the weight of being the defending 8th Region champions. And for nearly a year, they waited for the chance to make it back to state. Thursday night, that's exactly what they did, knocking out Simon Kenton 3-1 in the regional final.
    "The thing we told them at the beginning of the season is that everybody wants to beat you," coach Brian Jones said. "So it's nice to come out on top as the 8th Region champs. It feels really nice."

  • Oldham County upends South...

    The Oldham County Lady Colonels had plenty of big wins heading into Thursday night's regionl final against South Oldham, including three wins in the teams' last three meetings, but none would be more important than their final meeting as the Lady Colonels knocked out South 1-1 (4-1) in an overtime thriller.

    “Our strengths tonight were pose and stamina, because South brought it," Oldham coach Dan Schulz said. "They brought a great game out here tonight, and they deserve a lot of credit.”
