  • Region 8 softball: Lady Colonels...

    WARSAW – A big first inning paved the way for an Oldham County first round win Monday.

    The Lady Colonels broke out of the gate with four runs and held on to beat Collins 7-4 in the first game of the Region 8 tournament at Gallatin County.

    OC will meet the winner of Monday's Gallatin County vs. Grant County game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

    “The main thing was hitting,” OC coach Steve Leanhart said. “That's our team.

  • Boys Class 2A Track and Field:...

    LEXINGTON – North Oldham came close to pulling off a boys/girls Class 2A sweep Friday.

    The Mustang boys finished with 51 points in the state championships at the University of Kentucky, putting them in a second-place tie with Paducah Tilghman. Highlands finished as state champion with 56 points.

    North's runner-up finish came one year a 31st place, seven-point showing at the state level.

  • Girls Class 2A Track and Field:...

    LEXINGTON – North Oldham sprinted, ran, threw, jumped and vaulted its way a true team championship Friday night.

    The Lady Mustangs totaled 90.5 points, beating second-place Lexington Catholic by 27.5 points to win the program's first Class 2A state track and field title at the University of Kentucky.

    Lexington Catholic was runner-up with 63 points, followed by Western Hills (59), Highlands (55) and Paducah Tilghman (46).

  • District 29 baseball: Dragons...

    GOSHEN – A half-inning after South Oldham gave away a two-run lead against North Oldham Wednesday, the Dragons came right back to take control and win a district title.

    South scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead on its way to a 7-4 win in the District 29 title game at North. The No. 1 seed Dragons (19-9) had already won the regular season district title and added a tournament crown to an impressive 2014 season.

  • North, South girls lax fall in...

    The girls lacrosse season ended Saturday for both North Oldham and South Oldham.

    North, district champion, lost 12-10 in the state quarterfinals to Assumption. Madison Cobb scored three goals, with Baylee Willett and Sydney Willett each adding two.

    South fell 28-0 to Sacred Heart in the state quarters.

    North beat South 14-8 May 15 to win the district title. Baylee Willett scored eight goals that game. Teckla Danielson led the Lady Dragons with four.

  • Track and Field: Multi-talented...

    Erin Olsson doesn’t have much time to slow down.

    The North Oldham runner works two jobs, takes two AP classes, plays basketball and runs track for the Lady Mustangs.

    If it sounds like Olsson is taking her high school experience in a sprint, well, that’s what she’s used to.

    The junior sprinter will compete Friday at the KHSAA Class 2A Championships in Lexington. She’ll run as the No. 1 seed in the 4x200 meter relay, 400 dash and the 4x400 meter relay for a North girls team in the hunt for a state title.

  • Boys Basketball: Veteran coach...

    North Oldham’s boys basketball program has struggled to establish stability in its short history.

    North athletic director Alan Yanke hired a coach last week he thinks can bring that stability.

    Assistant Rob Burton was hired to fill the Mustangs’ head coaching vacancy, the school announced May 14.

    Burton, a North assistant the last six years, replaces Chris Stobaugh, who wasn’t retained after two years as North’s head coach. Stobaugh went 29-28 over two seasons, including an 11-17 mark in 2013-14.
