  • North Oldham ends season in...

    NEW CASTLE - North Oldham coach Rob Burton couldn’t have asked for a better start from his team to open the Region 8 Tournament versus Owen County. But rather than delivering a victory speech in the locker room after the game, he thanked the Mustangs for what he calls a successful first season complete as coach.

    North Oldham couldn’t hang on for 32 minutes with the hot-handed Owen County as the Rebels move on to the semifinals with a 67-61 win, ending the Mustangs’ season at 16-16.

  • Oldham County’s Region 8 run cut...

    NEW CASTLE - Oldham County’s path through the Region 8 Tournament leading up to the championship game Tuesday night was easy. The Colonels defeated two opponents by a 29 point average and put up over 70 points in each game. Unfortunately for the Colonels, there was a team waiting to change that trend.

    Oldham County never could find it’s rhythm against Collins Tuesday night in a 53-42 loss in the Region 8 Final held at Henry County.

    The Titans won the rematch with Oldham County after a big 68-43 loss in Buckner on Jan. 20.

  • Lady Colonels’ effort not enough...

    Oldham County girl’s basketball coach Jace Bryant hoped his team’s underdog mentality would give them the push they needed to put up a fight to Simon Kenton in the first round of the Region 8 Tournament.

    But Simon Kenton took care of the underdog early and cruised to a 55-32 win over the Lady Colonels at Carroll County High School. The Lady Pioneers will play Shelby County in the 8th Region semifinals.

    GOSHEN - Athletics at St. Francis School in Goshen hasn’t necessarily been a conversation starter in recent years. Thanks now to a brand new gymnasium built last summer, it’s the talk among many area private schools. The new gym has increased interest in basketball at the St. Francis Goshen campus with participation numbers on the rise among the lower and middle school teams.

    The gym, built on the foundation of an outdated facility that stood for a few decades, was completed last July costing $2.4 million.
