One of the keys to any postseason run is having experienced players go above and beyond their play in the regular season.

Which is why the Lady Colonels are heading to the district finals and South Oldham is heading home after a 63-45 defeat in the first round of the postseason Wednesday night.

The state meet will now take place March 9-11, still scheduled at the Alltech Arena in Lexington.

Having suffered an embarrassing defeat earlier this month, the North Oldham Lady Mustangs were determined to prove this year's district tournament wasn't a cake walk for top-seeded Trimble County.

Consider the point taken as the Lady Mustangs nearly halved the margin of victory for Trimble County, but still fell 49-32 in the first round of district play.

With an extra week of preparation, revenge on the mind and a loser-goes-home atmosphere, South Oldham thought they finally had the recipe for defeating No. 1 district seed North Oldham Tuesday night.

But the Mustangs instead survived the upset attempt, 68-61, defeating South on its home court for the third time this season.
