  • Boys soccer: Lister scores three...

CRESTWOOD – A stingy defense and the finishing abilities of senior forward Christian Lister put South Oldham in the district driver’s seat Tuesday.

Lister scored three second-half goals and the Dragon defense didn’t allow Oldham County to put a shot on goal until the final minute. That combination added up to a 3-0 South win on a chilly night at Dragon Stadium.

Tuesday’s win marked the Dragons’ first shutout of the Colonels in six years.

  • Field hockey: North wins in...

CRESTWOOD – North Oldham and South Oldham needed an extra 10 minutes to decide their field hockey match Monday night in the mist at Dragon Stadium.

When the 10-minute overtime wasn’t enough to break a 2-2 deadlock, the teams went into penalty strokes.

Lady Mustangs Charlie McCauley and Madison Cobb converted their strokes and goalie Sarah Foye didn’t allow a Lady Dragon to score, giving North a 2-0 advantage and a 3-2 win over its county rival.

  • Golf: Thomas claims first pro win

Justin Thomas turned what he called “a good, solid” first year in professional golf “into a great year” on Sunday.

The Goshen resident sank a 21-and-a-half-foot putt on the first playoff hole to beat Richard Sterne and win the Web.com Tour’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio.

The tournament victory was the first for Thomas, a former Kentucky Mr. Golf at St. Xavier High School and All-American at the University of Alabama playing his first year in the pros.

  • Girls cross-country: OC second...

GOSHEN – Oldham County used a consistent approach to get a runner-up finish Saturday.

The Lady Colonels placed five runners between positions 18-33 and came in second only to DuPont Manual in the team competition of the Rumble Through the Jungle on Saturday morning at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve.

Junior Sammy Griffin led OC with an 18th place finish, running the three laps in 20:36.53.

“I’m always so proud of the team,” Griffin said. “…I think everybody did well.”

The North Oldham junior finished third in the 2012 Rumble Through the Jungle and came in second one year ago.
