  • KHSAA girls soccer state...

LEXINGTON – Coach Cy Tucker said the 2014 South Oldham Lady Dragons’ season was like a great novel that “you didn’t want to end.”

The final chapter of that novel proved to be happy, if perhaps a little anticlimactic.

Senior forward Stephanie Rowland scored four goals to power South past Owensboro Catholic 4-1 Saturday night in the KHSAA Girls Soccer State Championship Game at Henry Clay’s Bell Stadium.

The Lady Dragons’ state title was their state-best seventh overall but first since 2001.

The twins were standing around their father when he pulled out his phone to see if race results had been posted.

“He was like ‘We won!’ and jumped up and down,” Cole Dowdy said. “I was so surprised. I was taken aback. We went running through the crowd to find our team and we told them.”
