    South Oldham girls basketball coach Christy Higdon said she knew the time was right to resign.

    “I’ve dedicated 26 years of my life to probably over 300 kids,” Higdon said. “...I’m getting ready to turn 50 in July and I think it’s that time to start enjoying life a little more.”

    Higdon is stepping down after two years as head coach of the Lady Dragons.

    Her teams went 24-31, winning the 2013 District 29 title and finishing as district runner-up this season.

    Tracy Harris and Dylan Watkins were the female and male champions of the Roman Road 5K Saturday at Crestwood Baptist Church. The race was the first leg of the four-part Oldham County Grand Slam.

    The second race of the four-race series is July 18. It is sponsored by the Oldham County YMCA and begins at Covenant United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m.

    WARSAW – Oldham County made it farther this season than coach Steve Leanhart said anyone thought the Lady Colonels would.

    OC won its first two games at the Region 8 tournament last week beating Collins 7-4 in the first round and tournament host Gallatin County 2-1 in the semifinals.

    The Lady Colonels played Anderson County to a draw for 11 innings in the title game before a 12th-inning Lady Bearcat home run gave Anderson a 4-3 win and ended OC’s season.
