  • Mustang football playing for...

GOSHEN – North Oldham has had a couple of weeks to prepare for its most important regular season game of the year.

The Class 4A No. 8 Mustangs (6-2, 3-0 4A, District 3) blitzed overmatched Atherton 56-7 on Oct. 17 and now head to Collins Friday for a matchup against the No. 6 Titans (6-2, 3-0).

The winner Friday in Shelbyville guarantees itself home games for at least the first two playoff rounds, while the loser will likely have a tougher first round matchup and a second round road game.

  • Luck of the Draw

Some Kentucky hunters might go their whole lives without drawing a tag to hunt bull elk. Ali Powell, La Grange, got one on her first try.

“My husband had been putting in for years to hunt elk,” Powell said. “When it was time to do it this past year, I told him to put my name in, too. It was the very last day to register.”

Powell, who is relatively new to hunting, was surprised to learn that she had earned a first-week, bull elk tag for the firearm season, arguably the most coveted draw.

  • OC’s late rally vs. Eastern...

BUCKNER -- Eastern started fast Friday night at Bell Field, scoring on three consecutive drives of 80 or more yards to take an early 21-7 lead.

A four-yard run by Caleb Allen pulled Oldham (2-6, 0-2 Class 6A, District 5) to within 21-14 midway through the second, and Sean Nuernberger followed with a season-best 48-yard field goal after Eastern fumbled the ensuing kickoff to make it 21-17.

Eastern (3-4, 1-1) scored on seven of its first nine possessions.

  • Second half rally sends South...

TAYLORSVILLE – Cy Tucker said the difference between his South Oldham team’s first and second halves Monday night was a matter of an attitude adjustment.

“I guess they decided they weren’t going to be the team that loses to Spencer County,” the Lady Dragons’ coach said.

And after trailing Spencer 1-0 at halftime, Stephanie Rowland scored three goals the first 10 minutes of the second half, sending South to a 3-1 win in the first round of the Region 8 girls tournament.

  • Talented trio leads OC girls

BUCKNER – Oldham County hopes its special season won’t be ending anytime soon.

The Lady Colonels have gone 19-0-1 this year, including a 9-0 win over Gallatin County Monday in the first round of the Region 8 girls soccer tournament.

But when the Lady Colonels’ season finally does come to an end, three OC standouts will be continuing their careers at the Division I level.
