    SHELBYVILLE – Using their size advantage from the opening tip the Shelby County Rockets put South Oldham away early in rolling to a 58-45 region win Tuesday.

    “We talked about it and talked about it over Christmas break, about being able to do that when we could,” Shelby coach Jason Holland said. “I think we actually started it back in the Anderson game when we only shot five 3’s and got so much inside. The girls may have realized if we can that to a team like Anderson we can do it against any team in the region.”

    North Oldham’s wrestling team finished second to Meade County Saturday at Valley’s Main Event Invitational.

    The Mustangs had four champions: Drew Johnson (106), Dallas Ochsenbein (113), Collin Portman (182) and Landin Jones (285).

    John Reitnauer (160) and Collin Waples (170) each finished second in their respective classes.

    South Oldham’s girls soccer team will be honored by MaxPreps, a high school sports website, and the Army National Guard before South’s girls basketball game at 7 p.m. Jan. 21.

    Out of more than 10,000 high school girls soccer teams nationwide, only 10 of the nation’s top-ranked teams are being honored on the MaxPreps Girls Soccer Tour of Champions.

  • Girls Basketball: Lady Mustangs...

    GOSHEN – North Oldham coach Dan Pfaff set up quite the schedule for his Lady Mustangs this week.

    North hosted Spencer County on Tuesday night. The Lady Mustangs will then host Lanesville (Ind.) at 6 Thursday night, travel to Fairdale at 7:30 p.m. Friday and host Owen County at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

    “The guy that scheduled this stuff, I don’t know what he was thinking,” Pfaff quipped Tuesday.

    North got its marathon week off to a good start against Spencer, beating the Lady Bears 64-42.

    BUCKNER – Oldham County saw just how valuable its starting point guard was Monday afternoon when it didn’t have her available.

    With Kasey Wernert on the bench, the Lady Colonels held on to beat Louisville Collegiate 40-37 in their last tuneup before hosting South Oldham Friday night.

    Senior center Abigail Stewart scored 15 of OC’s 40 points and helped hold off an Amazons team that had a chance to win in the final seconds.
